Objectives
The Internet and the World Wide Web have created a revolution in how business transactions are carried out. eBusiness is changing the way companies trade and do business with the public and with each other. In addition, these technologies are profoundly affecting the way we think about markets, products, payments and financial transactions, intellectual property, copyright law, public policy and tax policy. To take advantage of this fundamental paradigm shift, there is a need for managers who are able to bridge the fields of technology and business to lead diverse teams of people.
The UWM School of Business Administration is offering an interdisciplinary Master of Science in Management - eBusiness area of concentration. It is designed to educate a new generation of business leaders, planners, system developers, analysts, programmers, managers and executives in both the technology and business aspects of eBusiness. The graduates of this program will be ready to take on challenging positions in business, government, and other institutions and to act as catalysts of change.
Goals
The primary goals of this program are to provide MS-eBusiness area of concentration graduates with:
- Technical skills in Internet and Web technologies.
- Ability to find business opportunities and manage organizational change.
- Clear understanding of strategic issues and emerging business models.
- Understanding of the marketing issues in eBusiness.
- Familiarity with the security, privacy and legal issues in the conduct of eBusiness.
- Hands-on experience in successfully completing a project in eBusiness.
- The program concludes with a practicum during which students of different backgrounds work in teams with a faculty adviser to develop a working prototype solution to a real eBusiness challenge provided by one of our industrial affiliates.
Upon graduation, students should be able to fill leadership roles in a business sector anticipated to grow by a factor of 10 every few years for the next decade.
The program will assist UWM in continuing to meet the demands of its students as well as the demands of employers of our students. Such a program fills a critical need for a new generation of business leaders in this area in southeastern Wisconsin and indeed in the entire state of Wisconsin and nation-wide.
